Why indirect heat
The flame stays outside. Only dry heat comes in.
- No open flame in your space. Combustion happens in a sealed chamber and vents outdoors.

What is Applied Structural Drying (ASD)? +
Applied Structural Drying is a method of controlling temperature and humidity so a building dries as fast as possible while protecting finishes. During heat season we use indirect heat and dehumidification to manage moisture in the space. It is the most efficient way to heat a building and it improves productivity during finishes.
What is the difference between indirect heat and make-up air? +
With indirect-fired heating, combustion happens outside the occupied space and only clean, dry heat is delivered inside, so no water vapor or CO2 is added to the building. Make-up air heating burns fuel with an open flame inside the space, which introduces large amounts of water vapor and CO2 and burns roughly twice as much fuel while pressurizing the space.
How much water vapor and CO2 does temporary heating add to a building? +
Burning 11 gallons of propane through a make-up air heater (about 1,000,000 BTU) generates roughly 22 gallons of water vapor and 135 pounds of CO2 inside the space. Burning 10 therms of natural gas in an open-flame heater (about 1,000,000 BTU) produces roughly 11 gallons of water vapor and 135 pounds of CO2. Indirect-fired heating adds none of that moisture or CO2 to the interior.
What size equipment can I rent? +
We rent natural gas, oil, propane, and electric heaters up to 6,000,000 BTU, portable air conditioners up to 25 tons, and dehumidifiers that remove up to 30 gallons of water per day per unit. Ground thaw units can thaw up to 10,000 square feet each.
Do your building enclosures meet fire codes? +
Yes. Our weather protection and containment enclosures meet NFPA 705 Method II and Boston Fire Code BFD IX-1.
